We recently did a page on the greatest NFL players of all time and as a site that wants to be read by all types of people across the globe, we think that the next step is to make an article based on the greatest players from the biggest sport in the world and soccer is that sport.
It’s without a doubt that soccer (or football) is the most popular sport in the world and arguably the best. Although it isn’t as big in America as it is across the globe, even we can see how big and important soccer is as a whole.
When a sport is as big as soccer, there is a lot of contention at the top of the mountain about who is the best. At all times there is a soccer debate going on, but, this list is going to highlight which players we consider as the GOATs in their sport.
Lionel Messi
Nowadays there is a fairly general consensus that Lionel Messi is the greatest player that has ever played the game and this is for good reason too. There is a certain feeling that Messi gives you when you watch him live and this feeling is the reason why people love soccer as much as they do.
He electrifies every pitch he steps foot on and will constantly be the best player on the pitch. It is a known fact that if Messi is on the pitch the live football betting at Boylesports will likely favour whatever team he is playing for and this should speak to his skill as a whole.
Throughout his career he has won a record number of Ballon d’Ors with seven, holds the record for the most goals for Barcelona and in La Liga, the league Barcelona play in, along with many trophies like the World Cup from 2022. Overall, Messi is easily one of, if not, the greatest to ever do it.
Cristiano Ronaldo
When we talk about marketable athletes and hard work, Ronaldo is the poster boy of these things. The biggest debate in football is between Messi and Ronaldo fans, as both sets think the other is the best and both of them have their cases.
With Messi, you have the most technically gifted player who was born with impeccable talent and Ronaldo is the opposite of this, he is a hardworking individual and constantly pushes himself to be better than everyone and for many years he did this winning five Ballon d’Ors while at his peak.
Ronaldo is one of the best finishers we have ever seen in the sport and was, again, one of the most entertaining while he was at his peak. The Messi and Ronaldo debate is one of the most exciting things in sporting history and picking between them should be shunned as we are lucky to have witnessed two of the greatest players of all time before our very eyes.
Pelé
This list wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the most influential soccer layer of all time and Pelé is that man. Pelé ended his career with three World Cups to his name and the record for most goals in football history, with over 1200, which is still intact today. Overall, Pelé was an icon and his presence in the sport is missed.
