IMSG Meaning: Texting, Snapchat, Instagram, TikTok & More

IMSG is short for “Instant Message Games,” a feature that allows users to play games while messaging their contacts. Meanwhile, some other companies/platforms, such as Netflix and Snapchat, are now allowing this feature.

IMSG can also simply refer to iMessage, a default messaging service on Apple products.

IMSG Instant Message Games or iMessage

IMSG as Instant Message Games

If you want to play instant message games with your friends, you can simply text, “Hey, let’s play some IMSG tonight?”

Some people even use this acronym to get someone’s phone number in a flirty way. By asking them to play IMSG with you, you are indirectly asking them to share their phone number with you because you need that info to play together.

Use Example 1:

  • Friend: “Hey, have you tried the new trivia game on Netflix yet?”
  • You: “No, what’s that about?”
  • Friend: “It’s one of those instant message games. IMSG is super fun, want to try it tonight?”
  • You: “Sure, sounds great! Just text me the time.”

Use Example 2:

  • Friend: “I heard Snapchat has games now.”
  • You: “Yeah, they’ve added quite a few IMSG. Want to play some while we chat later?”
  • Friend: “Definitely! I’ll be free after 7 PM.”

IMSG as iMessage

On the other side, if you want to use IMSG as iMessage, you can use it in sentences like this: “Can you please IMSG me the questions from the previous test?”

Here are some examples:

Text Dialogue 1:

  • Friend: Can you send me the notes from today’s lecture?
  • You: Sure thing. Do you want them through email or iMessage?
  • Friend: IMSG would be perfect, thanks!

Text Dialogue 2:

  • Friend: Do you have the address for the party tonight?
  • You: Yeah, I can IMSG it to you. Need it now?
  • Friend: Please, that would be great!

What Are Instant Message Games?

Instant message games, often referred to as chat games or messaging app games, are games that are played within a messaging app interface.

These games are designed to be interactive and can be played between two or more participants who are communicating through the app.

They are popular on various instant messaging platforms, including Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Snapchat, among others.

These games can range from simple quizzes and puzzles to more complex strategy and role-playing games (RPGs).

Many of them are designed to be quick and easy to play, making them a popular choice for people looking to engage in interactive entertainment without committing to a lengthy gaming session.

Other Meanings

In some cases, especially when texting work colleagues about technical stuff, you may encounter IMSG. However, it will probably have a different meaning from the ones mentioned above:

  • Informational Message
  • Information Management System Group
  • International Marketing and Sales Group
  • Insurance Market Solutions Group

Alternatives and Variations

If you want to say someone to message you but don’t want to say “IMSG me,” you can say it like this:

Conclusion

When you see IMSG in a text or social media post like Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok, it usually means one of two things: “Instant Message Games” or “iMessage.” As such, it is either used as an invitation to play games with someone or to send a message.
